Computed Tomography or CAT scan is a combination of many x-ray views at different angles that produce cross sectional images of the bones, organs, and soft tissues within your body.
Grace Cottage Hospital recently installed a 40-slice Philips CT scanner. This scanning technology allows faster scan times meaning shorter breath holds to the patient. Using a faster scanner in conjunction with the latest software, we are able to deliver the lowest possible doses of radiation without compromising image quality.
What to expect regarding your CAT scan:
Depending on your exam you may be required to withhold eating and drinking, you may also be required to drink a special drink referred to as contrast and/or be injected with a different kind of contrast. The contrast that you drink will highlight your intestines while the contrast that you may get through an IV will highlight the vessels. Some exams or health conditions will require you to have blood work prior to the exam while other exams require no preparation at all.
If you have any questions please discuss with your doctor or call the Diagnostic Imaging Department to speak with one of our Technologists.
