Commmmunity Health Fair A Success
“It was a great event,” said Elliott Greenblott of
Brattleboro, speaking of the first-ever Spring Into Health Community
Health Fair sponsored by Grace Cottage on May 17th. “It was
entertaining and educational, and there was fantastic representation
of health and public safety organizations. I’ll be back next
year!” These were sentiments echoed by many who attended and
exhibited at the free Fair, which filled the Townshend Common and
Leland & Gray High School’s gym and parking lots. The
American Red Cross drew over 30 pints of blood from donors, multiple
rescue and fire vehicles filled the Common, and a climbing wall
and obstacle course kept the kids occupied. In the gym, the Hallowell
Singers from Brattleboro Area Hospice performed, while over 50 different
non-profit organizations, from AARP to Youth Services, provided
interactive exhibits and demonstrations. Free massages and cholesterol,
glucose and glaucoma tests were big hits with attendees. About 25
members of the Vernon Tornadoes performed jump rope routines and
tricks outside, and K-9 demonstrations and a bike rodeo also entertained
and informed participants. The DHART helicopter made a brief visit
to the Leland & Gray athletic fields before being called away
for an emergency.
Mark your calendar for the second annual Community Health Fair,
to be held on May 16, 2009!
